And the new shoes arrived T O D A Y

Buh bye little worn out sandals. You've had a good life on my feet.
You have haven't you?
Didn't I make you feel loved, wearing you in the warm months at least once a week for the last couple years?
You hafta admit, I let you hang on past your prime. Because I loved you that much.

We had a good run, you and me. A good run indeed.

But you're being replaced.
With a newer less scuffed version of you. And some that came in a box
Fancy pants.

Makes me happy !
Thank you Macy's.
Thank you Mr. Postman for delivering this here box on my front porch today. (sigh)

Too bad tomorrow is casual day.
Oh well, there's always Monday. Or Sunday. Church... yeaaah, need to find an outfit with black to wear. That should be easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Out with the old, in with the new... S H O E S

I have a favorite pair of shoes I bought at Marti & Liz (a discount shoe store I l-o-v-e <3)

I wear em all the time when the weather is warm and my toes are needing some air.
Like today.
They're great for several reasons...
  1) they're black (ahem, I wear a lotta black)
  2) they're high enough, but not too tall
  3) they're comfy
  4) they're a wedge & easy to walk in
  5) you can never go wrong with a thong style sandal
  6) they're simple enough they pretty much go with everything
  7) they're just cute!

But, if you didn't notice in the pic above... you will in these...

Yes, I'm a fan of a black Sharpie for touch ups. (shame)
As Angela & Brandi would say,
Lyndy them's to the dust girl!

Since I looked down at em in Sunday School this morning and kinda cringed, thinking oh, I hope these ladies sittin by me don't look too closely, I figured it was time for a replacement pair.

Fingers crossed, I first tried zappos.com but had zero luck there. Sadness.

Then I just googled "Style & Co wedge thong sandals" and ba-BOOM! Macy's came through for me. And even better was the price. El cheapo sandals-o! $29.98? Yes please.

Thanks Macy's cuz you made my day.
Now hurry up and ship em my way.

Here's the link so YOU can buy some, too!

this week so far...

Um, I'm not complaining, really I'm not, but....

This week has been pretty boring so far.

Summer tv STINKS! Agreed?

And it's too hot to do much outside. Can't even enjoy the front porch. Last week was rainy, but at least you could breathe when you walked outside.

Work, Home. Work, Home. Work, Home, Church, back home. Work, Home. Work, Home. Home. Church, Home. REPEAT

You get the point... me & the hub aren't exactly splashed across the lifestyle page of the local paper. We keep to ourselves a lot.

Tonight for dinner, at Anthony's request, I made sloppy joes (Manwich). He decided they were worth another try with Cheez Wiz atop his. Yes, I said Cheez Wiz. Or as I call it, cholesterol in a can (or is it technically a jar?)...

My man does NOT like MANwich. Really? I mean, I thought every guy liked some sloppies. Uh uh, nope, not my man. (sigh)

The verdict?

He's still not a fan of the manwich even with the cheesy sauciness. (sadness4me)

And while we're talking food, why do BROWNIES taste yummy and raw veggies taste icky? I'm just sayin...
I made some brownies a couple nights ago and they're still tastin delish. Raw veggies only stay fresh for like a day, right? Splain me that one Lucy...

And why does an hour at work feel like a lifetime but an hour doing something really fun flies by?

We're currently experiencing a minor problem with some ants who apparently want to be a part of our family.

I've been researching natural ways to help them relocate. We can't just spray poison & toxins on the floor cuz we have a sweet kitty we'd like to keep in the family.
And the dumb sweet kitty thinks the ants are the show and she bought a front row ticket.
She usually kills bugs and what not, but these ants have apparently formed some kind of bond with Tinsley. I don't get it.

I'll wrap up this post with an update on the running thing

I've promised my friend Angela that I'll run the Women's Half Marathon in Nashville in September with her. When I promised her this, it was right after I ran the Country Music Half in April. I was still kinda on that runner's high. I wasn't thinking it all the way through obviously...
training in the summer?
in the heat?
and humidity?

UMMM. . . .
    What was I thinking?

I've been doing my runs, but when I get back from running I do a whole lotta complaining to Anthony. I'm sure he wants to install a MUTE BUTTON ON ME. What's new? He probably wants to daily. bwahaha

Monday morning I rolled outta bed at 5:11 and went for my 3 mile run. Yeah, on a Monday. In the morning. Wow. You're impressed if you know me. Lyndy is not a morning person.

But I promised a friend and after all, a promise is a promise. That's why I'm tellin you my sweet blog follower. You'll help me stick to it. Won't you?

Stop rollin your eyes. Rude.

a Saturday recap

I told you a few weeks ago about getting an iPhone.
And I'm still in love with it.

Yesterday I took some snazzy iPhone pics to sorta document a "normal day" in the life of Anthony & Lyndy...

~ My morning started off early... as in 6 am, roll outta bed, put on the gear and head out the door for a run
Yeah, I was kinda slow.

But it was raining so give a chic a break wouldja?
Did you run 4 miles Saturday morning?
I didn't think so.
Moving on...

they say the camera adds 10 pounds so Tinsley may be looking like she's 24 pounds here...
~ This is my FATTTT CAT in my lap keepin me company since Anth was hard at work makin $ and fixing ball fields. The last two Saturdays I might have gone back to sleepytown after my run. I'll never tell.
*side bar:  As they finished the last field for the tourney, the Lord decided to water em realllll good. So all their work was washed away. (sigh)

~ I did a bit of laundry.
This is the most action my kitchen table has seen in a while. We unfortunately eat our meals in front of the ole tv.

~ We ran to grab some lunch and on the way back in the house, I spotted this FOOTPRINT...
Anthony laughed and said it's a Tarheel (as in North Carolina Tarheels). I thought it was picture worthy.  Dusty feet from dusty ball fields.

~ this is probably boring & ordinary to you, but I thought it was cute how Tinsley was on the edge of the couch by Anth. I was curled up close to her, but of course somebody had to take the picture of this cuteness.
~ I realized Tinsley now matches the utility room (which is where her potty and food & water are). I thought it was awfully cute, don't you?!

 ~ nap time for Anth
poor fella had a rough morning of work and with all the rain that fell Saturday, it would make anyone sleepy
~ I guess the rain made Tins sleepy too
surprisingly I didn't nap (shock & awe)
~ Anthony had to do a little surgery on his man chair (sigh) gee thanks La-Z-Boy So am I the only gal who thinks recliners are hideous?
Oddly, a piece came off the other day and it's been making the most horrible racket... but since he repaired it, it's acting much better. So far so good, fingers crossed. Or maybe not... hmm
~ Mom & Dad came by to see my utility room redo & chat a while... Dad got comfy in "the square chair" as we call it
~ After Mom & Dad left, we headed to Calhoun's. We hadn't eaten there in ages and it was quite delish! It was so delish I didn't waste time takin a pic. ha!

   and then....

~ We stopped here to peruse some pretty sparkly cars and SUVs cuz somebody might have a pinch of car fever...

So there you have it - an ordinary, uneventful Saturday with Anthony & Lyndy (and our sweet kitty). . .

I'm so blessed to have such an ordinary life that I get to spend with a heaping of a sweet husband, a dollop of a pretty little fat cat, and a sprinkle of great parents.
Life is good.
Life sure is good.

more kitchen mishaps I had forgotten about

After posting about my latest kitchen mishap a few days ago, I remembered there was another mishap or two I could share with you faithful blog followers.

Mishap #1
what: arm burn
when: Sept 2011
where: my kitchen of course

See it?
There between the moles

For my mom's birthday last year I surprised her by having her sisters, my niece and my sisters-in-law down for breakfast. Here's the blog post

I always try to make sure the food is fresh and hot when I have people over. So I was chatting away with Leslie and as I reached down into the oven to get the pigs in a blanket out, I didn't squat low enough I s'pose cuz I burned my left forearm on the top part of the oven. It took a second for me to feel it. But when I did, I squealed a little. OUCH!

Mishap #2
what: soap dispenser scuff
when: 2011
where: my kitchen

I don't remember what I was doing when it happened, but I'm the poster child for a clutz.

I was doing something over the sink and had the disposal on. Well I bumped the soap dispenser and down she went.

Into the disposal.

What a racket it made!

I thankfully had enough common sense (I think God only gave me a thimble full) to turn off the disposal before pulling the soap thingy out. When I pulled it out, it was scuffed up pretty good. I told Anthony it was distressed. It looks cooler now. Lol I've never put soap in it anyway. Am I weird?
Do not answer that.

Oh, and when I was a teenager I opened a walnut with a butter knife and sliced my finger on the first knuckle of my middle finger on my left hand. I had a decent amount of skin just flappin loose. You can still see the scar a little and I'm waaay past the teen years. (sigh) It may have needed stitches. Eh.

I shouldn't be left unsupervised in the kitchen, huh? I'm my own safety hazard. :-P

another kitchen mishap

If you read my blog entry from the Pinterest party ~here it is if you missed it~
you know I'm prone to spilling things. Remember this? the Hamburger Helper incident of February 2011
um yeah, I should be smacked for cooking HH anyway. Shame on me. And our love of processed foods.

Anyway, last night I had yet another kitchen mishap. Lyndy style. Sorry, no pics.

I fixed spaghetti pepperoni casserole, a recipe I've made a lot since I've been a married girl. It's pretty tasty, but we haven't had it in a while. I'll give ya the recipe at the bottom of this blog post.
Courtesy of my sis-in-law
Leslie.

One of the steps in this recipe is to put some butter in the 9x13 glass dish and stick her in the oven to melt said butter. Ok. Then ya sprinkle some parm in there and toss the ole noodles around in it.

Hungry yet?

Well obviously when you take it out of the oven, she's hot. So I put the dish on a couple potholders. Constructed the casserole and stuck her back in the oven to get the cheese good and melted.

Then I went back to the living room to sit a spell. And to play Words with Friends.

A few minutes passed and Anthony asked "what's that smell?"

I jumped up from the couch and went to investigate. I didn't smell anything. Until I opened the oven. And smoke came out. Dark smoke.

A potholder was wedged in the door and was kinda burning.

I pulled it out and threw it in the sink. No flames. But a tiny spot on it was bright reddish white. I drenched it with water.

Crisis averted.

I reckon Anthony saved the day. And his worries about the casserole tasting icky - not a bit! It tasted just fine. Not that he would touch it til I tasted it first. (sigh)

Here's the recipe - just don't cook your potholder with it.

Spaghetti Pepperoni Casserole
   by Leslie
3 lasagna noodles (or 4 if you're afraid one of em might stick or you might drop it in the floor, not that I've ever done that)
OR a box of spaghetti
1 lb ground beef
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1 package pepperoni slices
1 package shredded mozzarella cheese
1 stick of butter (I use half a stick)
Parmesan cheese (you be the judge of how much)

Heat oven to 350. Melt butter in 9x13 glass dish. Sprinkle parmesan cheese in butter. Brown ground beef & drain. Cook noodles & drain. Toss noodles in butter and parmesan cheese. Layer pepperoni slices on top of noodles, then the ground beef. Next pour spaghetti sauce over meat. Last, sprinkle mozzarella on top (and some parm if you want). Bake until cheese melts.

Enjoy my stupidity carelessness and this yummy recipe.

Laundry room makeover

My laundry room recently got a little makeover...

From a shade of grey (or is it gray)
to a chocolatey shade of brown (think Hershey bar)
I'm hoping it doesn't make me want to eat the laundry (hayuk hayuk)
It's actually an Olympic color (from Lowe's) called Seal Skin

The painter was Anthony's sis, Christy
          See her in action !
nice (she doesn't even tape off)

We've been in our house almost 5 years (time flies) and one night a couple years ago I guess, Anthony had a little tummy trouble and kinda barfed a bit before he made it all the way to the potty. So bless his heart, he cleaned the walls and of course with lovely flat paint, left smudges. Thus, the laundry room makeover.

So for the "art" I wanted to do, I had seen this nifty thing on Pinterest where you can transfer images to canvas yourself. A little DIY. (ahem
So away I went -
to shoot some laundry room art...

I had to get my mother-in-law to help me since she had the nearest, straightest clothes line. See her arm in the right margin?
from that ...
      to this (courtesy of Photoshop)
The clothespins were all dry rotted from long term exposure. And we fiddled with the line a little too much cuz we ended up breaking it. Ha! That's why Janice was having to hold it up.

This shot was cool, but didn't make the cut.
Went with this one instead.

And a little stack of folded towels by the laundry basket seemed to round it out fine.
I realize the other shots are more old school, but eh, who cares?! It's my laundry room and I can mix it up if I wanna.

So anyway, back to my project... on Pinterest I found this blog that had the instructions for putting a picture on canvas.
*Note: You print your image on copy paper with a laser printer, not an inkjet because your image will smear into a mess if you use inkjet. And since one of mine had words, I had to print my image in mirror image.

FYI - Mod Podge does a lot of little cool things...
This is what my canvas looked like after brushing on a pretty good coat of Mod Podge
You flip your picture over and smush it down, trying to get all the creases out. The one on the right had just been smushed down.
The one on the left is in the next step...after letting it dry a few hours (or overnight, which is what I did), you spray it with water and start peeling. And you peel a lot. A whooooole lot.
And you'll think you're all done, but then as it dries, you see this... more paper to peel (sigh) here we go again...

But it's worth it folks -
This shot is my fave!
I like how distressed, vintage and OLD it looks ~

And my other little project involved photography, too!
I found this canvas art at Big Lots for $9.99.
It was cute enough, but I needed it to have more BROWN in it... so I just slapped on some more of the wall paint and voila
We're getting there...
Have you seen those pictures where people have taken a picture of a random object to make a letter? And then they spell out their last name or something?

Look at this pic -
You're probably seeing the bottom of a bucket, and thinking you're wasting my time Lyndy!
But I saw the letter D - look again
I shot some other things to spell the word LAUNDRY and used a bit of scrapbook paper, some more Mod Podge and hung myself a sign in that newly made over laundry room o' mine.
The L and U reside in an old wooden bench
The A is from a good old-fashioned swing
The N is a horseshoe o' course
That bucket made a good D
The R is a shepherd's hook of sorts that holds a bird feeder
The Y is obviously a tree limb

It ain't fancy and probably won't appear in any Better Homes & Gardens mags, but I like it nonetheless.

Now I SMILE when I clean our dirty clothes. (wink, wink)

a Pinterest party

You remember my addiction to

right?

Well some of my gal pals decided to have ourselves a Pinterest party.

The rule was you either had to make a recipe from Pinterest OR a recipe you had never tried making before. No golden oldies. None of your go to faves. Had to be sumthin new.

So a couple weeks ago, we had this here party at mi casa.

I made corndog muffins, supreme pizza fondue, chicken alfredo rollups & Andes mint cookies.
Go to Lyndy's Pinterest Boards to hop on the link to the recipes. The only critique I had with either recipe was the dogs tried to stick to the pan.

Jenny had to get all FANCY PANTS and make table tents for her stuff. She brought cheesecake filled strawberries and lasagna cupcakes (made in muffin tins with won ton wrappers). Both were delish.

Actually everything we had was delish.
Corn dog muffins, chicken alfredo rollups, supreme pizza fondue w/breadsticks by me
in the middle is the lasagna cupcake by Jenny
at the top right is Doritos taco bake by Brandi
on the right is cheesy chicken chilaquiles (a Pampered Chef recipe) by Bev
Not pictured:

Andes mint cookies by me (um, I could eat a hundred of those)
Mounds cake by Brandi

Fruit salad by Angela
Lemony angel food cake (a Pampered Chef recipe) by Bev

As you can imagine, we ate ourselves SILLY.

Laughs and giggles courtesy of Angela...
she was tellin us a tale of an unfortunate incident her friend had that ended up with said friend gettin a broke toof
Angela and Jenny are always quick to pose for a pic. HAMS.... Ya see Brandi and Bev are a wee bit camera shy... everybody has a friend or two like that, right?
 good times, good times

After the gals left, there was a little mishap with the pizza fondue...
Add another messy verse to Lyndy's life song...
